My site has come a long way since the early days of Pokemon BBQ recipes and controversial Flash games. When I first implemented a blog it was because I wanted to write the blog software itself and cared less about the actual content. For a while there it was almost an annual event to redesign my web site and rewrite the underlying software it was running on until I finally got tired of maintaining it and wanted to focus more on just writing. That’s when I moved the blogging to WordPress and it stayed that way for several years.
In 2023 I was investigating alternatives for moving something away from 11ty and I discovered Astro. It was an absolute joy to work with by comparison, and as I spent more time working with it I felt that itch that I hadn’t felt for a long time. The itch to build my own blog.
Fast forward a few months and it’s ready enough that I think it’s time to say “goodbye” to WordPress.
What does that mean in practical terms? All posts on my old WordPress blog have been taken down and it now redirects to here. Any posts older than when I started designing the new site will initially be unavailable. I’m aiming to migrate most of the old blog posts over to the new format in the coming months.
There will no doubt be other teething issues along the way but it’s all part of the fun.
